Forever Friends

We used to have forever
Days that stretched and stretched
Times filled with drama, laughter, and love
We were the same once

But forever left us long ago
Something changed between us
And forever days, they drifted by
Floating out of reach

Why did you walk away?
Was the difference that much or
Was there some pain deep inside
That you kept out of sight?

Forever is no longer
Now is where we are at
Now is where we struggle
Now is when we need each other

Yes, we write
And our writing skills improve
But those tender, forever moments
Have all but disappeared

We can't go back to forever
Those days are long and gone
Yet, if you come and meet me
We can make forever new
